Emovis, one of the world’s leading providers of toll-based mobility solutions, has been awarded a contract with the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA) to provide Customer Back Office (CBO) systems and support.

Emovis will upgrade the RITBA tolling back-office system to include E-ZPass account and customer relationship management and transaction processing services, interoperability with other agencies, transponder fulfilment functionality, invoice processing services, third-party interfaces, and interactive voice response /call center support functions.

These upgrades build on 10 years of collaboration. RITBA initially assessed the performance of its Customer Service Center (CSC) and realized the importance of bringing its back office in-house. Over the years, Emovis has helped RITBA address challenges and achieve several significant accomplishments.

Emovis deployed its modular Tolling Back Office solution, which guaranteed full compatibility with E-ZPass and seamlessly migrated RITBA’s 150,000 accounts. Emovis also introduced a new enforcement module that gives RITBA full invoice processing capabilities. With the keep-it-local approach in mind, Emovis collaborated with Rhode Island companies for IT infrastructure, mail house, key interfaces and subcontracted civil and electrical work to local companies.

“This aligns with RITBA’s goals of improving our customers’ experience while containing costs,” said Lori C. Silveira, RIBTA Executive Director. “Reducing operating costs makes revenue available for other purposes including maintenance. As part of our continued collaboration with Emovis, we look forward to building on these successes.”

“We always strive to change what’s possible in tolling,” said Christian Barrientos, CEO of Abertis Mobility Services and Emovis. “There is no ‘one size fits all’ solution. It requires collaboration with our clients to look at requirements from multiple angles and constantly challenge the status quo. We have been doing this for the past 10 years with RITBA. This approach will guide us in the years to come as we design, integrate, test, install, and maintain the upgraded CBO.”

The upgrade will be used by RITBA to operate the E-ZPass CSC related operations. The System will also provide RITBA the ability to service the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) Rhode Works Truck Tolling Program activities.

The term of this contract is a 12-month design and implementation phase followed by an initial five-year operations and maintenance period. This will be followed by optional extension periods.
