Barcelona, 16 November 2021 – Abertis Mobility Services has launched a partnership with Yunex Traffic, a Siemens Business, to offer cities and public transportation agencies in Spain end-to-end solutions (and extensive experience in traffic control and management) to implement low emission zone projects.

In the next few years, the number of low emission zones in Spain, as in other countries in Europe, will increase consistently. The new Climate Change Law within the “Spain 2050: Foundations and Proposals for a Long-Term National Strategy” – an ambitious plan aligned with community policies to drastically reduce emissions of greenhouse gases – requires all cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants to set up an environmental zone by 2023. The introduction of LEZs will affect 150 Spanish localities with more than 24 million people, 52% of the inhabitants of Spain. For the implementation of an LEZ, a proven and highly secure solution is essential.

AMS brings to the partnership an extensive knowledge of its management, the proven experience and the added value services aimed at improving the “costumer journey” and the compliance with the regulations. Yunex Traffic brings to the partnership the technology system consisting of Hardware, Software and service components, with experience on the ITS market for almost 100 years. The proven, innovative, and modular LEZ enforcement system covers both, roadside equipment (e.g. cameras) and central IT SW system. As part of the LEZ service, we offer predictive data for traffic and pollution, helping decision makers to implement the appropriate air quality strategy. Yunex Traffic has built up a strong track record in LEZ solutions over the last years with references in big cities like London, Birmingham or Manchester.

AMS is expert in solutions and operations that regulate the use of infrastructures, with presence in 10 countries worldwide, providing experience in multiple regulatory frameworks and solutions.

With more than 400 staff dedicated to customer service, AMS has extensive experience in managing digital communication channels with citizens and handling queries and is a world reference in the field of image processing with its own product that includes Artificial Intelligence for the processing of evidence (Optical Character Recognition, fingerprint and recognition of patterns and habits of use).

As per AMS’ CEO Christian Barrientos “according to the WHO, 9 out of 10 people breathe highly polluted air each year, for this reason it is urgent to establish measures to reduce pollution within cities, as is the case of Low Emission Zones. Partnering with an expert in technology and innovation such as Yunex Traffic will help us build more sustainable and safer cities, using the most innovative systems, providing service management and operational excellence, with a team with extensive experience in urban and interurban roads.”

Yunex Traffic CEO, Markus Schlitt underlines the importance of this partnership: “One of our company-purposes is caring about our planet and taking climate action. Low Emission Zones are one lever on the road to more sustainable mobility. We have already gained a lot of experience in previous LEZ projects and are happy to take our expertise into other regions. To reach the ambitious goals in making traffic more sustainable and thus making cities more livable, we need to widen our networks and form strong partnerships. In Abertis Mobility Services we have found a partner with the same passion for innovative solutions and extensive knowledge of the local market.”
