Emovis brings technology solutions to IBTTA Dallas 2025

March 31, 2025

During this year’s IBTTA Tech Summit in Dallas, March 22–25, Emovis executives joined a crowd of over 900 toll industry professionals worldwide to explore the many facets of free-flow tolling and transportation. The four-day event offered attendees various networking opportunities — from panel discussions and open forums to mindshares and fireside chats — while the breadth of demonstrations and key takeaways from industry thought leaders enlightened guests in the Exhibit Hall.

Joined by ten other Emovis team members across various departments, Yolanda Donate, Chief Technology and Operations Support Officer at Emovis, shared her enthusiasm about the team’s participation in the event and the ability to exchange valuable information with other industry leaders. “At the IBTTA conference in Dallas, it was exciting to see how Emovis continues to lead the way in providing innovative tolling solutions,” she shared. “We’re proud to help our customers stay ahead by offering valuable insights into the latest trends and technologies shaping the future of tolling.”

IBTTA Dallas | A Mindshare of Seamless Solutions for a Simpler World

At booth numbers 212 and 214, team leaders shared meaningful conversations, expert strategies, and solutions aimed at tackling several transportation challenges in today’s ever-changing technological landscape.

Throughout the event, the team gained foot traffic from several conference attendees by hosting a well-positioned, branded booth that served as this year’s “Coffee Café.” Emovis executives served specialty coffee between event breaks, allowing attendees to connect with other industry colleagues, customers, and providers while grabbing a quick caffeine boost within the Exhibit Hall.

“This experience at IBTTA Dallas was an incredible opportunity to engage with industry professionals, exchange ideas, and discuss the future of tolling solutions,” said George Christopher, the SVP of Market Development and Client Success at Emovis. George, who is a Member of the Board of the IBTTA Foundation and co-chair of the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Subcommittee, was excited to build relations with colleagues, customers, and industry prospects.

In addition to the endless networking opportunities, IBTTA Dallas was packed with meaningful conversations, insightful sessions, and several engaging discussions on technology within the tolling industry.

Addressing Revenue Leakage with Proposed Solutions

When it comes to tolling revenue leakage, the difference between what a company collects and what it should collect is astronomical. Reports suggest toll authorities in the U.S. consistently lose revenue annually and fail to collect at least $2.24 billion annually due to undetectable license plates and missing billing data cited during the collection process.

Emovis solutions are designed with simplicity in mind, mainly when populations are growing, and commuter numbers are steadily increasing—which could lead to overwhelming traffic congestion in many locations across the globe.

The Road Ahead for Toll-Based Mobility Solutions

Over half a dozen sessions at IBTTA Dallas 2025 shared one consistent theme—that transportation, as we know it, is drastically changing by the day. Roads are becoming technology-enabled, more autonomous vehicles are on the streets, toll booths are becoming obsolete, and artificial intelligence is the new, overarching standard.

With this shift toward automation, tolling has become a technological solution—one that depends on complex systems to ensure communities keep moving. From smart tolling systems to seamless integration with next-gen payment methods, Emovis understands how to best implement these technological advances into systems to improve efficiencies, improve the driver experience, and support sustainable infrastructure.

The Emovis team looks forward to continuing these conversations at future IBTTA events and exploring new ways to drive innovation and progress with our partners and clients. If you missed this year’s conference and want to learn more about Emovis products and solutions, follow us on LinkedIn.

Emovis – Innovating in collaboration with Fujitsu

February 19, 2025

Wouldn’t it be great if every organization could save costs and innovate at the same time? At Emovis, part of Abertis Mobility Services (AMS), we are turning this ideal into a reality through our collaboration with Fujitsu Cloud Service for Microsoft Azure.

Addressing Important Challenges

We needed to update our core IT platform to support operations across seven countries, managing 2.5 million customer accounts and approximately 300 million transactions per year.

Innovation is at the heart of our work: we combine engineering and technology expertise to digitally transform toll barriers and payment methods, ensuring a smoother driving experience for road users. We required a solution that would enable a more connected, intelligent, and transformed business environment.

We are also committed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals related to infrastructure, economic growth, and health. The transport link is especially significant, and sustainability is embedded within our business model.

“We love applying cutting-edge technology platforms and operational services so driving becomes smoother and more sustainable,” explains our Head of IT, Francisco Toro. “Our major aim has been enabling free-flow toll activities, implementing the right technological ecosystem for urban and interurban traffic management, and facilitating Low Emission Zones through infrastructure charging.”

To address these and other challenges, we decided to collaborate with Fujitsu’s Cloud Service for Microsoft Azure to support a seamless cloud journey, enabling flexibility, agility, and innovation.

Impact

Adopting cloud computing is often seen as a critical corporate ambition, but building a high-performing cloud platform is challenging and complex. Fujitsu’s expertise allowed us to get up and running on Azure quickly, moving workloads with minimal risk. We now have a dedicated Microsoft Azure environment for cross services, and we have also started using Microsoft 365 as a productivity tool.

“We loved that Fujitsu came to us with a purely cloud solution,” Toro stated. “Fujitsu showed us how a move to Microsoft Azure would help us move away from the old-fashioned world of the data center, with its huge footprint, power consumption, and associated CO2 emissions.”

Key Results and Benefits

The solution, officially implemented and operational since January 2025, has already yielded impressive results. Sustainability has been significantly impacted, with the cloud migration enabling a reduction of over 80% in CO2 emissions, according to information from Microsoft.

In terms of cost savings, while the new infrastructure is still being evaluated, general estimates for cloud migrations indicate savings typically around 60%. We expect these savings to increase as the system scales.

The solution is also enabling faster innovation within Emovis. Thanks to Azure cloud technologies, our employees can now access services much faster and more efficiently compared to the previous on-premise setup. This accelerates the pace of innovation and problem-solving across our organization.

The deployment has also provided significant operational advantages. We’ve experienced faster deployment of corporate IT services, immediate infrastructure adjustments, and the ability to scale globally in a short period of time, strengthening our ability to innovate and meet the growing demands of the mobility sector.

Emovis brings cutting-edge tolling to Virginia

February 3, 2025

Emovis is proud to announce the successful implementation of a state-of-the-art free-flow tolling system for Elizabeth River Crossings (ERC) now operational at the Downtown and Midtown Tunnels in Virginia. This milestone represents a significant advancement in tolling technology and a shared commitment to enhancing transportation efficiency and sustainability in the region.

Developed in partnership between Emovis and ERC, the free-flow tolling system is designed to provide accurate, reliable toll collection, minimize revenue leakage and improve operational efficiency while enhancing the overall travel experience for users.

The project includes four tolling gantries strategically located at the Downtown Tunnel (DTT) and Midtown Tunnel (MTT). Each gantry is equipped with advanced roadside sensors and pavement detection technology.

Vehicle data is processed via Emovis’ cloud-based Roadside System Equipment platform, Emovis Identify, which generates accurate, uniform transaction messages. These messages are seamlessly integrated with ERC’s Toll Transaction Host for rating and invoicing in near real time.

The new system was implemented alongside the existing Road Toll Collection System, which has remained operational during the transition and will be decommissioned after the full adoption of the new platform.

Christian Barrientos, CEO of Emovis, added, “We are thrilled to partner with ERC on this initiative. Together, we’ve implemented a cutting-edge solution that sets a new benchmark for tolling systems in the region.”

“We are proud to have completed the installation of this innovative solution at our tunnels, so that we can provide even better customer service. This project is an example of our continuous commitment to improve our infrastructure,” says Anna Bonet, CEO of ERC.

As the free-flow tolling system becomes fully operational, Emovis and ERC are committed to continuously monitoring and optimizing its performance. This transformative project is a testament to the potential of innovative tolling solutions across the United States.
