Free-Flow Tolls Introduced on the Mont Blanc Motorways and Tunnel

December 4, 2024

The Mont Blanc Motorways and Tunnel (ATMB) will now benefit from the advantages of free- flow tolling under a 10-year contract awarded to Emovis, a subsidiary of Abertis Mobility Services.

As part of this project, Emovis will convert 58 km of the A40 motorway into a free-flow tolling system, providing motorists with an unmatched driving experience and optimized travel times. The system is scheduled to be operational by spring 2027, replacing the current toll plazas. Five bidirectional toll gantries will be installed along the route between Sallanches and Annemasse.

"We are excited to begin this collaboration with Emovis on a pivotal project for our company, its teams, and its customers. The challenges are significant, and we are counting on this well-established partner in the free-flow market to guide us through this multi-dimensional transformation," said Christophe Dubois, Director of Networks and Environment at ATMB.

ATMB will benefit from Emovis’ free-flow and back-office operational solutions, developed over many years and deployed with numerous concessionaires worldwide, including in Chile, the UK, the Netherlands, the USA, Qatar, and Canada. The combination of these solutions ensures the detection, classification, and management of all vehicles passing under the gantries in the most automated way possible, leveraging artificial intelligence algorithms.

Emovis' maintenance and operations teams will manage the entire system in collaboration with ATMB throughout the 10-year contract period. This long-term commitment aligns with Emovis’ DNA of building trust-based partnerships by delivering operational expertise and sharing knowledge with its clients.

"We are more than a solution provider – we are a true partner, enabling ATMB’s seamless and successful transition to free-flow tolling," said Christian Barrientos, CEO of Abertis Mobility Services – Emovis. "This partnership with ATMB further validates our expertise in free-flow tolling technologies. The new tolling system will not only enhance the user experience but also contribute to reducing emissions as vehicles will no longer need to stop at toll barriers."

The project is closely aligned with the European Union’s commitments to corporate social responsibility, particularly in reducing CO2 emissions.

Emovis Announces Expansion of Advanced Tolling Solutions in Québec

October 22, 2024

Emovis, a leading provider of toll-based mobility solutions and a key player under Abertis Mobility Services, is set to significantly expand its presence in Canada by enhancing its tolling infrastructure in Québec. This latest development aims to further support and streamline tolling operations for the thousands of motorists utilizing one of the province’s most prominent highways.

Since its successful deployment of an all-electronic tolling (AET) solution on Québec’s A-25 Highway in 2017, Emovis has solidified its role as a critical partner in the province’s transportation ecosystem. The A-25 Highway, which largely spans the Lanaudière region, includes a vital toll bridge connecting the cities of Montreal and Laval. In 2023, over 19 million motorists crossed the bridge, with an impressive 84.4% of users registered in the system. The high satisfaction rate of motorists further demonstrates the system’s efficiency and reliability.

Building on these achievements, Emovis is now preparing to undertake a comprehensive system upgrade. The project will see the installation of state-of-the-art, all-electronic tolling equipment, scheduled to go live in 2025.

“We are thrilled to expand further this project and implement upgrades designed to optimize operational performance, while improving user experience and reinforcing the overall efficiency of the tolling network of the A-25.” stated Christian Barrientos, CEO of Abertis Mobility Services – Emovis.

Emovis’ continued investment in innovative tolling solutions underscores its commitment to supporting the modernization of Canada’s transportation infrastructure, ensuring seamless mobility for millions of road users in the years to come.

New Operational Back Office in Chile through Emovis Qualify

September 12, 2024

ViasChile will benefit from a new Emovis Operational Back Office (OBO) solution that will improve the productivity of electronic transaction processing and the quality of the data obtained in toll gantries. Known as Emovis Qualify, the solution ensures 100% management of the transactions sent by the roadside systems, using different robots and algorithms.

Emovis, part of Abertis Mobility Services, will implement the solution in collaboration with, ViasChile. The Emovis OBO in Chile will impact Autopista Central, the largest urban highway that crosses the capital city Santiago from north to south through two high-speed express lanes.

“"As VíasChile, we trust that Emovis' experience will provide a solution that meets the challenges and requirements for managing our back-office platform. This project is part of the Company's strategy, where customer focus is one of the fundamental pillars of the projects we execute. This initiative will allow us to remain a global leader in the electronic tolling industry," commented Andrés Barberis, General Director of VíasChile.

Emovis will build on its 10-year experience and expertise in implementing free-flow tolling system OBOs for the likes of Metropistas in Puerto Rico, A25 in Canada, Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority in the US, Sanef in France and Mersey Gateway and Dartford Crossing in the UK, among others. The scalable solution can support any type of roadside system.

“Our OBO is designed with a high degree of automation to manage very high volumes of data with minimal manual intervention,” said Christian Barrientos, CEO of Abertis Mobility Services – Emovis. “The system is tailored to local client needs across the world and brings continual innovation to enable robust revenue collection. It will adapt and evolve to meet the needs of our stakeholders in Chile.”

The implementation of the OBO is part of ViasChile’s Operational Domain Design Project, conducted by Commercial Operation Area, Technology and Innovation team and Processes and Environment Area.

Emovis will support ViasChile throughout the implementation of the OBO ranging from the definition of business rules to its smooth integration to third-party systems. The contract was signed in May 2024. The first phase began in July and will last 18 months in total.

About Viaschile:

With over a decade of presence in the country, VíasChile has established itself as a leading highway operator, managing 412 kilometers of roads across four concessions in the Metropolitan and Valparaíso regions. Emovis to Expand Electronic Tolling in Puerto Rico

July 2, 2024

Emovis, part of Abertis Mobility Services, has secured another contract with Metropistas in Puerto Rico to implement additional barrier-free electronic tolling. It will be carried out on the existing dynamic tolling lanes (DTL) parallel to the PR-52 highway between San Juan and Caguas. The toll site will be located at the new access road connecting the PR-52 highway to the DTL near the overpass above the PR-177 avenue.

Christian Barrientos, CEO of Abertis Mobility Services, stated: “We can confidently say that individuals driving on the PR-52 highway will benefit from this new access to the DTL once completed, as they will have an alternative entrance point that may save valuable minutes from their commute time.”

This new collaboration builds on Emovis’ work with Metropistas since 2015. Among the projects during that time have been the implementation of 16 electronic toll gates distributed along the PR 22 highway; renovation and operation of three dynamic toll lane gantries on PR-22; replacement of over 120 cameras with the latest cutting-edge technology; and deployment of a new tolling roadside system for a major bridge.
